Musical Recordings at Wallace Library

Wallace Library has an extensive collection of musical recordings in a variety of formats, including LP, CD, and cassette tape. Materials in this collection do not circulate and must be used in the Library. Ask for LPs, CDs, and tapes at the Information Desk in the Atrium. They can also help you find the right listening equipment.

To find recordings in our collection, use the Advanced Search screen of the Catalog, enter your search terms, then click on the "Format" dropdown and select "music recording."

Streaming Music at Boston Public Library

The Boston Public Library (BPL) has an extensive collection of streaming music. As a student attending a Massachusetts college, you can sign up for a free BPL eCard, which will give you access to all of their online resources. Their collection includes:

American Music A music history database that highlights social and political songs by and about American indigenous peoples, miners, immigrants, slaves, children, pioneers, and cowboys. Included in the database are the songs of Civil Rights, political campaigns, Prohibition, the Revolutionary War, the Civil War, anti-war protests, and more.
Classical Music Library Classical Music Library's growing collection of 50,000-plus tracks for listening and searching is supplemented by extensive reference materials and backed by a powerful suite of tools designed to support learning.
Contemporary World Music A music database that offers the streaming of music from all regions of the world. Includes popular music, film scores, and genres of all kinds.
Jazz Music Library The largest and most comprehensive collection of streaming jazz available online with thousands of jazz artists, ensembles, albums, and genres.
Smithsonian Global Sound A virtual encyclopedia of the world's musical and aural traditions. The collection provides an unprecedented variety of online resources that share diverse musical forms.

Video Recordings at Wallace Library

We have an outstanding selection of videos, in DVD and videocassette formats, including many foreign-language titles and documentaries. Most feature films can be checked out of the Library. Some materials are non-circulating or are placed on reserve and must be viewed in the Library. Ask at the Information Desk in the Atrium for access to DVDs and VHS tapes. They can also help you access viewing facilities and playback equipment.

Music and Performing Arts A database which provides audio and video in order to provide music teaching materials spanning all time periods and genres of music and dance.
Royal Shakespeare Company Collection These high-definition, surround-sound recordings of William Shakespeare's plays featuring the world's best Shakespearean actors bring performances filmed at the Royal Shakespeare Company's Stratford-upon-Avon theater to your computer screen.
Theatre in Video Over 150 definitive dramatic performances and over 300 documentaries and interviews featuring directors, designers, writers, and performers. Videos include closed captioning and synchronized scrolling transcripts.
