Who Can Use ILL

Current Wheaton College students, faculty (including emeritus), and staff can utilize ILL. Interlibrary loan is not available to guests or alumni.

What You Can Request

  • Physical items: books, physical media, dissertations/theses
  • Digital copies: journal articles, book chapters, dissertations/theses
    • Note: At this time, we are unable to scan items available in the Wallace Library collection (see FAQ for more information).

If an item isn’t available through ILL, our staff can help you find alternate access options or resources. Items that are difficult to borrow include:

  • Exhibition catalogs
  • Materials restricted by copyright or licensing (such as entire eBooks, online journal volumes, or streaming videos)
  • New items published in the last 6-12 months
  • Rare, old, or fragile materials
  • Textbooks

Some ILL requests may take longer to process. Please email ill@wheatoncollege.edu to check the progress of your request.

You will receive an email notification when your ILL is ready. Turnaround times and delivery options are as follows:

  • Renewals: You can request a renewal through your library account or by emailing ill@wheatoncollege.edu. Renewals are subject to approval by the lending library. If approved, please allow 1-2 business days for the new due date to appear on your account.

Returning ILLs

Return your ILL items at the Information Desk or in one of the library drop boxes (located in the Main Entryway and outside the entrance to the Discovery Center from the Stacks level).

Overdue, Lost, or Damaged Items

Once an item becomes 7 days overdue, your borrowing privileges will be paused until the item is renewed or returned.

If you accidentally lose or damage an ILL item, please contact ill@wheatoncollege.edu. There are no fines.

Copyright and Licensing

Wallace Library adheres to U.S. copyright law (Title 17 U.S. Code) in providing resources through ILL. Institutions lending materials to Wheaton College patrons may follow different copyright guidelines that could lead to longer wait times.

Some resources may be unavailable or difficult to borrow through ILL due to licensing restrictions. Resources unlikely to be provided through ILL include entire eBooks or digital journal volumes, streaming video, and Harvard Business School Case Studies.
