Library Places


Most spaces in Wallace Library are available to everyone at all times the library is open. Some spaces may have restrictions on use or allow for reservations in advance. Please see the Wallace Library floor plans for exact locations.

Study Spaces

Study rooms, tables, chairs, and study carrels are available for solo and group study around the library.

Study carrels can be reserved for Honors Thesis students only. Please see the circulation desk to reserve a carrel. If not reserved, study carrels are first come, first served.

Study Rooms - Stacks Level, Rooms 1-11 and Music Seminar Room

There are 11 study rooms in the library that students, faculty, and staff can use for individual or group study and viewing of DVDs and VHS. Book these rooms on a first come, first served basis.

Media: varies, depending on the room. See the room reservations page for details.

 

The Music Seminar Room is also a reservable study space. Priority use of this room is given to Music faculty for teaching or group projects. Book this room on a first come, first served basis when it is not otherwise in use.

Privacy Rooms - Second Mezzanine, Rooms 2M200 & 2M203

There are 2 privacy rooms in the library that students, faculty, and staff can use for telehealth visits, job interviews, lactation, online testing sessions, or similar purposes for which a little extra privacy is required. Among other amenities, these rooms are lockable and have white noise machines. Book these rooms on a first come, first served basis. Pick the key up at the Information & Circulation Desk on the Main Level of the Library with proof of reservation. Please remember to return the key to the Desk after your reservation is complete.

Amenities: desk and chair, soft seating, table lamp for softer lighting, white noise machine, lighting for video conferencing

First & Second Mezzanine Levels

There are open group study tables and study carrels on the first and second mezzanines.

Clark Room - First Mezzanine, Room 205

In addition to a portion of the circulation collection, the Clark Room has group study tables and study carrels for use.

Reference Reading Room - Main Level, Room 104

This is a quiet study space with tables, chairs, and study carrels.

Periodicals Room

This is an open study area with group study tables and a smaller study area towards the back.

Stacks Level

There are group study tables and carrels in the stacks area and in the second stacks room.

Archives Reading Room

There are group study tables in the Archives Reading Room. These are available during normal Archives open hours.


Event & Conference Rooms

Booking of group study in these spaces is not permitted, but they may be used by students when no other event is scheduled. Continuing scheduled events will require special consideration.

Cole Room - First Mezzanine, Second Level, Room 207

This space may be used for larger group meetings or small events held by Wheaton staff or faculty.

Scheduled student use of the space requires a faculty sponsor and will be approved on a case-by-case basis. Use of this space for one-time faculty led classes is permitted. To request access to this space, contact Geoffrey Somes. The space may be used by students when it is not booked for an event.

Please note:

  • The Cole Room is an inaccessible space.
  • Projection is not available in this space.

Greenaway Room - Main Level, Room 123

A large conference room, this space can be used by all Wheaton community members and some external groups. To request access to this room, please contact Conference and Event Services.

Media: LCD projector (VGA and USB-C connection only) and screen; Windows laptop; powerpoint remote; conference phone

Merrill Room - First Mezzanine, Second Level, Room 200

This space may be used for small group meetings for library and IT staff, or faculty/group committees doing work related to the library, such as LTLC. To request access to this space, contact Geoffrey Somes. When not is use for meetings, the room is available for general use.

Media: 65″ flat screen TV with VGA and HDMI cables.

Scholar's Lab - Main Level, Room 101

The primary use of this space is for library instruction and workshops and for Peer Writing Tutors. Beyond that, the space may be used for library staff meetings or library sponsored events. Use of this space for non-library staff meetings and or faculty-led classes is not permitted. The space may be used by students when it is not booked for an event.

Media: Large flat screen TV with VGA and HDMI cables.


Computer Labs and Classrooms

Stacks Level Electronic Classroom - Stacks Level, Room S15B

The primary use of this Windows-based computer lab space is for library instruction and workshops. Beyond that, the space may be used for library staff meetings or library sponsored events. Use of this space for one-time faculty led classes is permitted. The space may be used by students for studying when it is not booked for an event.

Media: LCD projection and screen; Windows computers; laptop connection

Woolley Electronic Classroom - Main Level, Room 103

The primary use of this Mac-based classroom space is for library instruction and library workshops. Beyond that, the space may be booked for library staff meetings or library-sponsored events. The space may be used by students when it is not booked for a workshop or event.

Media: LCD projection and screen; Mac computers; laptop connection (adapters available at the Information and Circulation Desk upon request)
